My credo
A legend to the old man, a hero to the child...
Theres nothing wrong with the 2.9....i have had great luck with mine....dont run it/use it nearly as much as i used to but i still pop around in it....i know im over 400K by now....stil can eat the tires 1st 2nd and 3rd...no oil burning....but it leaks EVERYWHERE....

The biggest thing with the 2.9 is keep it cool, the ONLY thing weaker on the 2.9 then the 4.0 is the heads....

The 2.9 and 4.0 use the same trans bolt pattern....and 95...wouldnt that still be OBD I? I know the F series switched in 96...thought ranger did the same...

also...use a stick shift, and put some good gears in it (3.55 or lower) and that 2.9 will serve you very well.

later,
Dustin

Using a car dolly, a Honda crx can haul an f350, so that's not much of a challenge. And doing the 5.0 swap on the 95 ranger would be an easier swap. Using a 96-97 explorer V8 as your donor, they are literally plug and play on the electrical end...Not trying to talk you out of it, but it would be way easier and less headache. As stated, you will need the engine harness, ecu, evtm's of both vehicles, and if you have an auto trans, you will need to pick up an a4ld. Even though the auto trans behind the 4.0 (4r55e) will bolt up, it will not run as its an electronically controlled trans...

ah c'mon guys, hes made up his mind, he has 4.0s and hates there milage. he also has a good 2.9 getting removed for a v8 swap so he'll use the 2.9 in a truck with a bad engine, whats wrong with not wasting a good engine? personally a 94 or older OBD-1 truck may have been easier, but hes got the whole wirining harness so hes good there, he use a 4.0 M5OD and the tranny issue is solved, hard part will be the dash wiring but it'll probly be doable.

you haul 3/4 tons around with a civic???
No, I wouldn't own a Civic.

I did do it with a 2.2L S-10 once though.

But all that is beside the point. I was refuting the validity of your terrain-based argument by pointing out that the geography of the state that the person who posted the comment about the Honda lives in is similar to yours.

You have to be moving before you need to worry about stopping.

We made it to the scrap yard and back though.
