I need to figure that one out!
For the folks that have performed a 4.0 swap into their B2. Did you hook the VSS wires to the wiring from the transmission/transfercase or to the wiring coming out of the firewall?
I got my swap done, however it only runs for 30 seconds and then shuts off. Starts right back up, then dies again after 30 seconds. Any ideas?
Swap info: 94 Explorer 4.0, 91 Explorer wire harness, 88 B2.

Thank you

When it gets ready to stall, squirt some brake cleaner or something in the intake to see if it keeps running. If it does, you know it's a fuel issue.

+1 ^^^^

If using Explorer harness then just hook VSS to Transfer case harness for now(should have a plug in for it), it should split off to cruise and PCM(if automatic), in that harness

Running for 30second is a long time for a fuel issue but best to take that off the table since its an easy test
Is MAF hooked up and the air tube in place?

Does this 4.0l have a Cam Sensor, so a Calif model?
What year is the PCM, 1991 or 1994?

Sorry for the late response, been traveling for work.
VSS from Explorer I currently have hooked to both connections from transfer case and firewall together.
MAF and air tube are hooked up.
Engine out of a 94 and does have the cam sensor (mini distributor). However with the 91 harness this is not required.
PCM is 91 as well.
For the runnablity, I' going to double check my fuel lines.

Update:
I got it running. When I replaced the connector on the in-tank fuel pump, I switch to wires and the pump was pushing instead of sucking. Fixed it and it runs more than 30 seconds. Lol

I see you already got it fixed but for reference, I didn't hook up any of that stuff. I cut off everything from the donor harness except the actual engine harness. Mine is a 5 speed so I didn't have to worry about shift points. I did connect just enough for it to run and drive, left the rest dangling, once satisfied, hacked away.

The engine has a mode designed to get you home when something goes wrong. The engine will run in a limp home mode. It will run, but not it's best.
