Does anyone make rebuild kits for these engines or do you have to piece one together yourself?

I've got the heads at the machine shop right now getting freshened up. What needs to be done to the bottom end? Rings/crank journal bearings/cam bearings/etc?

By observation the bottom end looks decent. Cylinder walls look OK, etc.

Are there different levels of rebuild? Like since I've got it out apart if everything checks out are there certain parts you replace just for good measure?

First engine rebuild, trying to figure things out.

Same with the gaskets, is there a kit available or do I have to piece one together?

Brands? Vendors?

That definitely looks to be a cost effective option. Have you used their parts in the past? Any issues with quality? They have very generic descriptions for their parts.

Most of the "kits" for sale usually dont include a lot of name-brand parts, but they work fine. They're just the brown-box parts that shops buy that dont have a fancy, colorful box, or the high name-brand price, but things like gaskets may not last much longer than the shop warranty.

Either way, probably the most important thing to know is if you need standard parts, or oversized parts to make up for wear on the journals and cylinders.

The best reason to buy everything separately is that you can pick and choose manufacturers and quality, and also to get quality gaskets, since some kits come with cork, but upgraded ones from companies like Fel-Pro wont cost that much more.
