I'm trying to find out what transmission my truck has. It's an 03 4.0 with a five speed and manual transfer case. I know it's an m50d but what would the ID number be on it? I know I could just look at it, but it's at the Ford dealership right now and they can't seem to find one. Please help. If I can't find a transmission before tomorrow my truck will most likely end up in the junkyard.

My credo
If you're not making mistakes, you're not learning.
I don't know what you'd need an ID number for? It's a 4.0L 4wd M5OD. They're everywhere.

The only time I've been asked for an ID number on something is when I'm pretty sure they just don't want to deal with me. They wanted the code of of a sticker on the TTB beam of a 1995 Ranger. Sorry pal, some sticker isn't going to be around on the axle of a 14 year old Michigan truck, and told me he couldn't help me.

Something seems a little fishy to me, make sure they don't mention anything about selling the truck to them or one of the employees. That's an easy fix and they might want you to pawn it off to them cheap to "get it out of your hair". They could easily make a profit off of it.

Honestly nothing you've posted should have been a problem.

Yea....the dealership is trying to hose you in some way. Why not just find one in a junkyard with low mileage? They are probablly trying to get a brand new one from the factory and charge you a grand or more for it.

They don't make the transmissions anymore. I know it's an m50d, but since it has a manual transfer case they used a couple different parts inside the trans and the tailshaft is different. It doesn't really matter anymore anyways. It'll probably go to the scrapyard today.... That poor little FX4......
