how do you know its your lifters and not pushrod/rocker arm wear?

for lifters, running an engine flush might help. for pushrods and rocker arms, lucas will help.

The 4.0s usually tick from worn rockers/pushrods. They are different from the 2.9 in the source of the valvetrain tick.

Have you cleaned the Mass Air Meter. My 93 4.0 sounded like it had bad lifters or pushrods. Then i read here to first clean the Mass Air meter. Try it first it could be the problem and its free.

Unless it's making a nasty racket, turn the stereo up. If it IS making a nasty racket, park the truck until you fix it. Though it won't have the SBC failure (NASTY), you still don't want a pushrod flying around loose.
