I have headers for a 4.0 and I just finished my wife's 2.9 rebuild for her 88 B2 and the bolt pattern matches but are the tubes too big? Want to use them but not sure if it will be advantageous?

Only one sure way to find out. In a normal world too large on exhaust will hurt bottom end power.

If they bolt on i dont see why the tubes being larger would matter in a literal sense.

However unless youre planning on letting it scream all the time the bigger tubes will be worthless and will hurt your streetable torque.
