Have a 4.0 and 5r55 from a 4 WD explorer (‘98) any suggestions before I start? I do not have the key from the explorer. Have everything else, except the dash and pedals

4.0l OHV or SOHC?
Both were offered in 1998 Explorers

Pretty much need the whole 1998 engine bay wiring harness and engine bay fuse box
Need the 1998 Ford Explorer EVTM for wiring guide

Like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/385214618332
Good price, and you can resell it when you are done with it

1986 didn't have much wiring, but if you can find a 1986 Ford Ranger EVTM it would really help to ID wires
I see a 1987 which should have similar/same wire colors: https://www.ebay.com/itm/184839000872
But exact year would be best

I purchased the ohv engine. Probably a mistake? What do you think? I could go out and find an sohc.

OHV will be easier and more reliable, but only slightly, than the SOHC

SOHC has 47 more horse power, 160(OHV) to 207(SOHC)
So about 30% more

The 1998 OHV/5R55E computer can't run an SOHC engine
In my opinion go with what you got
