302 b2 vs 460 bronco

Hey guys, my friend and I were joking around. We are both doing an engine swap in our broncos. Mine a bronco 2 with (soon to be) 302, his a second gen '79 bronco with (soon to be) 460 in it. Now the bet was who would win. I think mine because I have a lot less weight. He thinks his because of how powerful his big block is. What do you guys think? Maybe in awhile I'll post a video if we actually race.

Big Bronco, real motor, real good huge axles will shut down little Bronco with wimpy smaller displacement. No brainer...now if you do what I have done.....I tell a guy with a big rig that my Samurai will take his rig on...I just go between trees and narrow places that big rig won't go...lol. Ford made 190hp 460s and 235hp 302s. Big Broncos aren't that much heavier than little ones. A piece of sheet metal doesn't weigh anything. I don't think there is 500# difference, honestly, especially on an older Bronco. A '90's Bronco is 4,600#. My B2, with the mods listed, is 4,200 and I have the certified ticket from Cat Scales. The empty weight of an early Bronco is barely 3,000#. I'm guessing a late-70s Bronco is around 4,000 even.

The problem is that people are incompressible. When you get a pile of truck parts together, you can pick up any bit of it. I have removed beds, cabs, frames, engines, axles all by hand. A big B scores minor chunks of weight here and there, but people still ride in both and in the end, the vehicles aren't that much different. The 8" wide strip of sheet metal required to make a Ranger into an F150 weighs a couple pounds. People are the same height and length so it's not like F150 occupants need a cab that is larger by the cube.

With both engines running well and of similar technology--the 460 big B will kick your ass.

My F-150 has way more cockpit room than my Ranger... doesn't compare at all that way. The '150 weighs an even ton more according to the local grain elevator scale. 3500 vs 5500, that was pre-v8 swap.

Gear ratios..
actual engine HP and torque..
Transmissions..
other mods that might add weight..
street, strip, or dirt...


As of right now, HE's winning. (Only because i like the 78-79 body style better.)

As of right now, HE's winning. (Only because i like the 78-79 body style better.)

Don't forget suspension tune.
Driver experience.
Track condition.
Length of track.
The list goes on...

Who can go the fastest and who can get there the quickest in any circumstance depend on far more than 1 variable.

Haaaa haaaa, I showed your post to a buddy of mine today and he cracked up!!!! I play guitar at a coffe house once in awhile (open mic night) and a bunch of regulars that like to hear me play and sing always say ' Ohhhh, That Guy!! '. Now I am getting a name tag made up like the one you posted. I copied and printed it out out and laminated it. I can't wait 'till Friday night to wear it....lol



My buddy also said that nobody rides or drives like me out on the trails...he said I am the ' Wild One '.

Last time i checked an engine doesn't run down a track on its own. Thats why all the things listed above are important. They effect how the power both engines produce get to the wheels where it counts.

Curb weight on a 1999 4x4 reg cab longbed V8 F150 is only 4,500#. The gross weight is what? 6,000 or a bit more? They designed a truck with 500# passenger+cargo capacity?
