I'd rather have 9.5/10:1 with a Performer RPM and a Holley. Blowers are too expensive, too noisy, and make too much heat. I go to the NSRA Northeast street rod nationals every year and much prefer the cars that were driven to the meet over the ones who arrive on a trailer and are polished like jewelry. If I can't drive it I don't want it.

It will be driven. I'm putting a 15 gallon tank in. Now obviously its gonna suck fuel but again open roof car and I live in Pennsylvania.

Did some coil over mock up gonna look for a good way to make the top mount without cutting my truck floor up.

I drag raced from 95 until 2012 or so. A Camaro with a TPI 350 could almost compete with a 5.0 fox body, as long as the fox body was stone stock, running on street tires, and the driver was inexperienced. I lost track of the hours I spent baking in the sun while waiting in the staging lanes for the track crew to get the oil slick and broken SBC guts off the track.
My son and I are going to the NSRA Northeast Nationals this weekend and I know we're going to see way too many SBC powered cars. Street rod guys spend a fortune to make their cars unique then stick the same engine in it that everyone else has. Ford Windsor engines and Mopar LA small blocks, 273, 318, 340, and even 360s are better engines. AMC's last generation V8's were decent but they're getting hard to find. Buick Nailheads look cool and are narrow so they fit well in old engine bays, a Buick 455 weighs almost the same as a SBC and they were torque monsters, Ford Y blocks are heavy but they have a great exhaust note and look cool- some had dual quads or a supercharger as factory options. I'd consider a 240 or 300 inline six before an SBC.

Going back through this post reminded me I know a guy with a 50's Buick 4 door road master I think, with a straight 8 in it. I dont know if the motor is any good its been sitting for a while but that would be a cool motor to put in something also even if it only made like 120-150hp. Im thinking a sedan would be cool with that.

My grandfather had a sawmill behind his barn in the late 60's/ early 70's that used a Buick straight 8 to power the board saw. It was almost 4 feet long and ran at a steady speed that didn't sound too fast to my young ears but it would chew through anything that rolled off the carriage without lugging down a bit. The board saw was at least 6' in diameter and there was no guard on it- or anything else in the mill. It was expected that men would pay attention and they did.

Well I used a freezer door and a ice pop to glue the metal together so.... there is that.

Moved it on the lift put the bearing adapters on the spindles also the rotors and bearings so it sits on the tires and started on the top of the coil mounts.

Starting to take shape, but before you go too much further, do you think it might be time to clean the frame and paint/coat it? In previous pictures the frame and other parts had lots of surface rust. Now's the time to do something about it before everything's in place and you can't easily access these areas.

The car gets almost completely assembled then taken back apart completely. after all the holes are drilled all the welding is done and grinding is done also after brake lines get mapped out and half a dozen other things that need mounted either in the frame or along side it. After all that it gets sand blasted and painted.

Started on motor mounts and a temp trans mount until I get the TKX. Made a jig style motor mount that gets a steel plated cover/reinforcement.

Did the body mounts and motor mount, did some more reinforcement of the coil over mount. Put it in storage for now until I get the rear blasted and get the tkx so we can do the trans crossmember and mafe a jig for the body so we can prep and clear coat.

I like the motor mount brackets you built, those flat biscuit mounts flat heads used were only slightly better than solid mounts. I also like that you pruned off the frame horns instead of having them stick out like so many do.

Are you planning on boxing your link mounts? Just a thought if you weren't already

I agree about the frame horns, that look is so much cleaner
