Hour and a half after work disassembling the 3.0 to replace headgaskets and a butt ton of grease! All that's left to remove heads are exhaust bolts(soaked em in pb blaster two nights in a row) and head bolts. Trying to do as much disassembling and prep I can during the week so this weekend I can take my time mocking up the turbos. The plan is to figure out adapters to make them fit heads and have room in engine bay to run all the piping..

short story of the mighty 3.0
way back in the late 80's Ford wanted to produce a high performance version of the Vulcan 3.0
they contracted with Yamaha to develop some fancy heads with about 200 HP as the goal

-condensed version-

Yamaha did up the power on the engines, then sent a crate of broken parts back to Ford with a note advising them to let Yamaha build the entire engine.

the result was the 3.0 SHO engine for the Taurus.

after a couple years the Vulcan 3.0 did get some block improvements, check the tech section for more info.

sorry to rain on your parade, but it would be rude of us to not point out a storm on the horizon.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Mount the turbos in the bed. With that length of charge piping you likely wouldn't need an intercooler

I dunno what it was but i remember seeing a car that had the turbos directly at the end of the tailpipes. It was not a rear engine car either. I imagine you can count the turbo lag with a calendar with so much piping... :dunno:

there have been a couple of them on Tv shows. I think Gearz did it to a Corvette a few years ago.

Yeah yeah I know SHO taurus, and things go bang blah blah.... anywho heads are off and they look fine but the block is a bit rusty which I had expected some just not this extent. I am happy I have some exhaust flange measurements and can draw up a flange with c.a.d. to adapt the turbos. Tail pipe turbos are nice but require scavenging pumps and long oil pressure lines .... although I do have a powerstroke turbo that I could do a single tail turbo but probably couldn't spoil that up!
