ok guys my swap is almost complete i have a 98 mazda b3k and i swapped in a 07 ranger 4.0. well the wiring for the alternator of the 4.0 doesnt match up at all, it has an external plug vs. the 98 3.0 which has the wires in the engine harness. well my question is could i take those wires out of the engine harness and get a 4.0 plug and link them up into the plug would it work?

I'd see if you can swap the b3000 alt onto the 4.0 and rip your alt wires out of the 3.0 harness and make a harness for your alt. It should bolt right onto the 4.0

Why would you want to retain the stock 3.0 alternator. The 4.0 alternator wires up simply. The 3.0 alternator like you said hooks up through the engine harness. The 4.0 has the bk/or wire going from the alternator to the positive battery cable with a fusible link. The yellow wire goes from the alternator to the same cable were it is also soldered in to a fusible link. Then all your left with is the LG/RD that goes directly to your gauges. Thats how Im going to do it anyway because the 4.0 I got has the 130 amp alternator.
