Hello! Ive had my 98 3.0 Auto 2WD Ranger (192k) for a few years now and I was wondering what I would need for a manual swap besides the transmission.

You'd need an ECU or PCM, and complete wiring harnesses on the engine side that links to the manual transmission system, if the transmission you're going with, has electronic solenoids or so.

Welcome to the forum

Yes, you will need an M5OD-R1 manual transmission from a 3.0l 2WD, 1991-2008 will work, because you don't need speedo gear hookup, the bell housings do not come off of these so must be from a 3.0l Vulcan engine to match up, and 2WD
The drive shaft from manual trans Ranger, maybe, matching your model, i.e. regular or extended cab

You will need the clutch/brake pedal assembly, with clutch pedal switch, and clutch master and reservoir
Also the clutch parts for manual trans
The floor shifter plate and boot
The steering column from manual Ranger but thats just to get rid of auto shifter so "optional"

Yes, your automatic computer will turn on the CEL(check engine light) because there is no automatic plugged in any more but you can still drive the vehicle
The automatic used a DTR sensor on the drivers side of transmission, you will need to cut that connector off and wire 2 of the wires to Reverse light switch on manual

There are another 2 wires on the DTR for neutral switch which do pass thru the cab just above clutch pedal
You will need to find that connector, just above clutch pedal, and plug that into the clutch pedal switch, this passes starter motor activation from the key

Drive shafts are different lengths. The manual trans itself is shorter than the autos, so it requires a longer drive shaft

Does the M5OD-R1 have solenoids?
