My credo
built her in a storage unit
which port should i have my o2 sensor in? the newer y pipe for the 4.0 for the trucks with 2 o2 sensor ports had one closer to the manifold on each side as compared to the 2.9 and early 4.0 y pipe that had 1 o2 sensor bung at the collector. i have the early wiring harness/computer so i have 1 o2 sensor, i also have the newer style y pipe with 2 o2 ports, as you can actually still buy these new and i cut my original up. i’ve been running it in the passenger side port for the whole time and it’s worked just fine, was wondering if anyone knew if running it in the other bank would be better, also a lot of the headers that are sold for the 4.0 have 2 bungs as opposed to one.

With one O2 sensor you would think it would be better to sample the exhaust from the entire engine. But if it's working ok just sampling one side, then why mess with success?

If I was worried about location, I would buy a bung and weld it in where I wanted it. Or get a muffler shop to do it. A lot less work...

It wouldn't matter
Bank 1 and Bank 2 O2s could improve MPG slightly but mainly there for diagnostic purposes in case of misfires or bank specific vacuum leaks
But computer would need to be software and wiring for 2 O2 sensors

I think that is what the OP is worried about, only sampling one side of the engine. If something goes wrong on the other side there is no warning. Having the bung just after the Y samples both sides with one o2.
