im running a 92 ranger with a 302, efi. gong to swap over to a 351w. its a 96, full rollerized block possible aluminum heads.
what i know will work, oil filter relocator, dual sump pan, wiring (just chang over pcm)
needed to change. flexplate, torque converter, im runnin hedman conversion v8 shorty headers will they work? harmonic dampner. power steering needed to change?
all front end brackets and pullies will work. ive got about 6" of clearance to my elec fans so thats not an issue, but im using mustang coupe, 1988 motor mounts. sit pretty high maybe drop in smaller mounts? anyone else got any other input? thanks

All that you need change is the flexplate, the torque converter will be fine as long as you use the correct flexplate. If the 5.0 has a 157 tooth flex, you just need to use the same size flex but in 28/oz. Can't say on the Hedman swap shortys other than you've got em, may as well try em.

No problems with the power steering or steering box. The headers probably won't fit. Good chance they will hit the frame at some point and the steering shaft, but if you have them try them ya never know. If you are saying the 302 pan will work on the 351, it wont'. They have different oil pans.

Yeah, the 1.2" of deckheight increase on the 351 plays merry hell with clearances....

i believe the dual sump pan i have is off a 351 windsor?
probably have to modify 1 or 2 header tubes, they hug the block pretty good being shortys and go straight back pretty much off the head

The pass. side you should be fine with the headers, I have a set of long tubes that will fit on my pass. side. The driver's side is a mother. The steering shaft is directly in the way and then you have to weasle past the frame and by the front drive shaft. I have a pair of F-150 shorties I'm going to try to see how they fit, if they do that will make somebody's day much better when they get to the exhuast stuff.

Get a set off headers off a mercury mountaineer with a 5.0 thats what im using on mine and i have no prob with clearence at all. i have a 351w in a 95 ranger

Do you have a 3in. body lift? I have a 92 ranger i"m collecting parts to change it over from a 4.0 to a 351 .
Was going to do the 302 then i had a friend GIVE me a 351 so i figured why not. I have a 4x4 with a 3" lift so it should be a little easier . Allways collecting info to. I'd like to do a mock setup first but don't know if it's worth the extra time.

Go to your local autoparts store and get a pair of 71 truck motor mounts, they are no mod direct bolt on bolt in mounts for the 5.0L ranger, are about 12 bucks a piece, and are lifetime mounts at autozone...( AutoZone part number 2829 )

Are you saying the mounts of a 71 pickup with a small block will bolt a small block into rangers?

Hey man I'm new here but was just wondering why you wouldnt want to just build a stroker with your 302 block? Same external dimensions, plus you can make tons of torque with a nice 347. Just something to consider. The reason I made an account here is because my buddy at work is in the process of assembling a 347 for his '94 4x4 and needed some help with the technical stuff.

Well why not stroke a 351w, you can make a hell lot tq with a 426W

sorry guys havent posted up due to computer problems. but back now. well the 351w would be very nice stroked out to a 426,ie no replacemtn for displacement,

Well why not stroke a 351w, you can make a hell lot tq with a 426W
