2pc or onw pc control arm?

Hello Gentlemen and Ladies,
New to this site, just joined, looking for some help with my 2009 sport 4dr v6.
I just picked it up for $850 but it appears to have had a pretty rough life.
I was looking at upper ball joints to buy and found that there are one pc and two pc /adj. control arms. with the ball joint.
Not sure what "one pc and two pc /adj. control arms" means and I'm not sure what to order.
I'm thinking it means that the ball joint can be replaced without having to replace the control arm too?
If someone can please clear this up for me I would appreciate it.

for the 1998 thru 2011 Rangers:
there are 2 distinct types of upper control arms, the difference depends on your front suspension.

coil springs or torsion bars are the determining factor, control arms are not interchangeable between the 2 types.

none of the coil type have replaceable ball joints.
some/many of the torsion bar type have replaceable joints, depends on the manufacturer.

Rangers of some years (not sure the total year range) came with a passenger side upper control arm composed of 2 pieces.
only 1 of the 2 pieces are still sold, not much help if you need both pieces so a 1 piece similar to the driver side is now sold.

the pass and driver side are opposites of each other, so a left & right are needed.

Depending on the condition, you might just want to replace the assembly(ies) -- not sure how rough of a life it has led :unsure:.

Is yours a 4x4 or 4x2?
Also, post some pics when you get a chance.

To @rumblecloud's question: There were 5 different upper control arms: driver's 1 piece 4wd, driver's 1 piece 2wd torsion bars, passenger's 2 piece 4wd, passenger's 2 piece 2wd and 2wd coil springs. The ball joint is subtly different between the 2wd torsion bar and 4wd, so you need the right one (or at least right ball joint). Hence, why we need to know a little more about your truck.

The 2 piece arm was manufactured to allow caster adjustment. But Ford no longer makes the 2 piece part, and the aftermarket has found that caster isn't that critical and they can get away with using the driver's side on passenger's.
