My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
We got 29.3 mpg last year on a round trip to Bar Harbor, Me with our 2.0 EcoBoost Escape AWD. Hilly terrain the whole way, 75-80 mph on Interstate 95. I was able to squeeze out 21 mpg on the highway with my 04 Ranger 4x4,4.0. 5 speed before they polluted the gasoline with alcohol. Flat, straight sections of road are so rare that we name them.

Update !

In the interests of science and fairness , ran the numbers over a longer distances .

770 miles
27.66 mpg

Not quite as mind blowing , but still substantially exceeding my initial expectations . No , don't have any explanation or theories .
