I have a clean 85 bronco B2 with a bad a4ld transmission and was thinking I would like to swap to a manual but would prefer something beefy and a better engine to go a long with it. I have been looking into different small diesels that I can swap over for mileage and decent torque. I read in a few different places that the early Mercedes 4 cylinder diesels were over built and really stout, there only problem was the naturally aspirated part. I found a 69 mercedes 220D and was wondering if anyone had any info on this particular motor. I was planning on turboing the motor and aiming for 250 lb ft. As far as pump and injectors I was planning on running om617 units and a custom intake and exhaust manifold. for the transmission I was planning on running a gm sm420 and machining the adapter conversion to mate the two. good idea ?
