My credo
This is my Ranger. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
so in roughly 13 years you won't be able to buy a new (edited) gas vehicle in California.
13 years is a long time.

For reference. roughly 15 years ago. the iphone didn't exist.
Blackberry owned 40% of the cell phone market
3 years after the iphone released, Blackberry held 0% of the phone market.

Incorrect, afaik. You wont be able to buy a NEW gas vehicle.
I agree with your other observations .
And if I'm lucky I'll be able to afford a new to me Maverick.

Used will go pre emission diesel pice so for the masses they might as well not exist.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Now.. the real question is:

How long after 2035 is California going to start banning the use of ICE vehicles?

That's something that could easily be picked away at, in one way or another..

First, crap that came factory without cats can't be registered. 5 years after that they could give the axe to stuff that's not injected, 5 years after that you can't register your obd1 vehicle, then obd2..

Doesn't it seem weird that whether our cars are powered by liquid dino juice or electrons is somehow political at all? What about it is "one party versus another"? The only reason this is perceived as political at all is that we've been told it's political and programmed by what we consume to think that a person who supports clean energy or EVs must be in one political party while somebody that does not must be in another. And then, we jump to yet another conclusion and assume that the person that might have different political view is somehow our enemy instead of a valued member of our own community.
It shouldn’t be but is. Almost everything has been made politically charged when it shouldn’t or doesn’t need to be.

I think it’s the “divide and conquer” mentality/approach. If the people are too busy fighting one another, they can’t organize and work to fix whatever the issue/problem is.

I think most agree on more things than they disagree on to the most part. It’s the nit picking that gets in the way.

Yes, absolutely. But it's important to mention that we are each responsible for our own statements and assumptions. We are responsible for how we treat others and whether we let our biases or preconceived notions alter our interactions. Assuming something about a person's behavior or beliefs based on a small sample or a single discussion is intellectually lazy. We all do it from time to time, but it's important to try and avoid it or we fall into the trap of "us vs them".

As of 2022 the average age of vehicles on US roads was 12.2 years old, and its been going up a month or so every year
Vehicles are just lasting longer
Average age of vehicles on the road in 1980, 7 years old

So in 2034, last year for ICE sales in Cailf., it would be 13 years for average age of vehicles on the road
So there wouldn't be any attempt to limit ICE, in Calif., until at least 2050, and at that point, if electric or other options have proven viable, there would just be a minority of ICE enthusiasts, most people would have adopted the "better" option, as it always has been done

Exactly. There's not really much precedent for banning previous technology. Carburetors, points, and cars without emissions controls are still allowed on the road. If you're willing to maintain them and hunt for scarce parts, it's up to you what to drive.

Aside from Europe which has been enthusiastically banning ice powered vehicles in certain areas and cities for a couple years now.

Madrid has been trying that out for a few years, older gas or diesel vehicles, 2004 and older I think, goes up every year, have been banned from entering parts of the city, and in some of their downtown areas they want to be vehicle free in a few years, no vehicles of any kind

Not sure how that will work for tradesman(plumbers/electricians, ect...) and deliveries

California is setting its own precedent for banning previous tech already. It absolutely WILL start banning the use of ICE in one way or another eventually, if this electric stuff can keep up.

The central Madrid thing was kicked back a year ago. I think there are some limits but no outright bans, and it's a very defined portion of city center anyway.

Can you give an example that applies to the topic at hand?
