While the latest-generation Ford Ranger Raptor is already available in markets including Australia and across Europe, Americans have had to wait a little longer. This particular Ranger Raptor is thought to either be a pre-production prototype or could be a production-spec example for the U.S. market.
The Cactus Grey Raptor looks virtually identical to the model sold elsewhere but does have orange reflectors in the front fenders. The third brake light has also been relocated from the tailgate to the top of the cab. It also looks like the U.S. model will have a small sliding rear window.
The cabin of the model looks very familiar and is adorned with a number of sporty trimmings, including red accents around the air vents, a red 12 o’clock stripe on the steering wheel, and red stitching on the seats, dashboard, and gear shifter.
Powertrain details remain unconfirmed but we expect the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 of the Australian and European models to be standard. In Australia, this engine is good for 392 hp and 430 lb-ft (583 Nm) while being limited to a mere 288 hp and 362 lb-ft (491 Nm) in Europe due to strict emissions standards. We suspect the U.S. model could have just as much power as the Bronco Raptor which is rated at 418 hp and 440 lb-ft (596 Nm) of torque.
Last week, reports surfaced indicating that production of the North American version of the Ranger and Ranger Raptor would start on July 10 with deliveries penciled in for August or September. If true, that means this is definitely a pre-production prototype.
