Because they hire firms to check on things like this.

One of them went after TRS over the use of "Ranger" in "The Ranger Station" and decals with the Ford oval years ago.

Cool story.. Thanks for posting that.

I wonder, did the US Government go after Ford back in 1958 when they introduced the Edsel "Ranger"?

One more thing on filters... I drove Tacoma's for 22 years and always bought Toyota oil filters and changed the oil myself. Toyota places a shrink wrapped clear plastic cover over the end of the filter with the gasket. So you knew the oil filter hadn't been tampered with when you took it out of the box. They also pre-lube the gasket with something that looked like petroleum jelly.

Another reason not to buy Wally World Motorcraft... who knows who's done what to the filter. At least at the dealership it's in a semi controlled environment.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?

Congratulations on replacing the Toyota with a Ranger, I'm sure you'll enjoy not having to shave your legs any longer.

I'm gonna buy myself a Motorcraft filter from the dealer... they just built a new facility within 3/4 mile from my house. I already have a Wally's Automotive one on the shelf.

First thing I'm gonna do is a visual... then weigh them both.

A used oil analysis is the only way to know for sure. Blackstone Labs, costs about $27. I get them once in a while. My daughter got a new Fiesta a couple years ago and it calls for an oil change every 10k or once a year. I use Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 and a Mobil 1 filter, got a used oil analysis once after 10k and it was perfectly fine. She doesn't live with us so I don't see her car a lot. For as little as an oil change costs and the time it takes, I do mine and the wife's every 5k.

I send in for analysis sporadically on my vehicles just to see how they are doing. They have been telling me everything is fine and tell me from time to time I change my oil too frequently.

People forget about the time limit thing and only think of the miles.

We used to have a guy who was like that. He was always complaining about doing things because he didn't see the need to do them. I was always on his case about that, like "dude, customer asked to have it done, it's their car, their money, just do it."
