Well like I said there is still a difference between the quality stations and cheap stations even though they start life using the same base gas. The good stations use better additive packages where the cheap stations don't.

I try to stick with BP and Shell and use their premium fuels (Nitro or invigorate etc) once in a while. Not for the octane but they clean the living crap out of your fuel system.

Agreed, I just wonder if there is a difference in the % of ethanol from different suppliers.

Depends what comes off the boat. :icon_rofl:

They can't use more than 10% unless it's advertised as E20, E85 ect.

You can do a simple test to see what % ethanol it is.

Interesting, but video would have been easier to watch without stupid background music.

Edit: found instructions WRITTEN DOWN and took less time to read and understand them than try and decipher BoobTube video. At least that one had the camera on a tripod, sans the usual "camera person having a life-threatening seizure" video quality.....

Or... give it a bit and let condensation do the magic for you.

I never thought I would but I've bought Motorcraft filters from Walmart, they're real Motorcraft filters.
How would you know? Not being a smart ass, but your post makes it seem like you know for sure... just want to know how you determined that.

Faking the packaging is easy, and duplicating the filter is easy too.

My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
I have no objection to buying direct from the dealer, I often do, but it's not a way to prove to Ford that you installed the part on your vehicle or did it properly.
I know they're real Motorcraft filters because Ford admitted selling them to Walmart at below dealer cost and I fought with them for years about it. Their position is that oil changes are the biggest DIY project people do on their cars so they want them to have easy access to Motorcraft. I fell that the Motorcraft brand is devalued by sitting on Walmart's shelves beside the aftermarket stuff. I also objected to Walmart paying less than the dealers, if the dealer body is considered as one(like it is under Ford's rules and pricing), the dealers are a much bigger customer than Walmart and deserve a lower price. Ford actively goes after anyone who infringes on their copyrighted names, anyone selling fake Motorcraft would be over run by lawyers. They objected to the Mercedes E350 and Ferrari F150, neither of which were in danger of being confused for Ford products. In the course of 42 years at the dealer I handled more than a few Motorcraft filters. I'll continue posting the truth, feel free to disregard anything you want and have a nice day. When it bites you think of me saying "I told you so".

Because Wal-Mart a national company and Ford would be all over their @$$ for selling a fake product.

I get what you're saying, but you're also saying you trust Walmart? The company that sells Chinese crap and makes millions doing so.

It's really just an assumption on your part. Thanks to @Dirtman for the video..

Fake products sold by places like Walmart or Amazon hold risks of everything from cyanide to rat droppings — here's how to make sure what you're buying is real

Not at all.

I am assuming Ford is protecting their brand by not allowing a huge national chain to slander it.

I have used Wal-Mart Motorcraft oil/filters in my daily driver since about 2007. It has 190k miles on it and is now almost 19 years old, runs as good as ever. I just replaced the intake manifold a couple weeks ago, intake valves looked pefect (not direct injected) and I had a valve cover off a couple years ago and everything was spotless in there (POS plastic valve cover had a slow ooze) So after 13 years of personal testing I would say if it is fake it is still pretty good stuff.

Hazard of outsourcing to India, China, etc. First shift runs the 'real' product, 2nd, maybe, third or weekends they crank out 'whatever' and sell out the back door. Once tooling is shipped overseas there isn't much way to stop it. And there are plenty of countries that give a rat's ass about patents, trademarks, copyright, etc.

I'm wondering how Ford would even know?

Yeah, they are outsourcing all kinds of stuff... not only oil filters, but wiper blades, tires, seatbelts, airbags, you name it. Would have to be a huge pain to keep track of all the suppliers.

And, if you don't do regular quality control checks when the parts come from overseas, and/or have your own people on site watching the production, it can slip. Badly. In any industry. Medication, high tech, whatever.

Because they hire firms to check on things like this.

One of them went after TRS over the use of "Ranger" in "The Ranger Station" and decals with the Ford oval years ago.
