2017 Escape 2.0 EB gas mileage

My wife's Escape has the 2.0 echo boost, auto, awd. Only gets 20 mpg hwy. My 18 GT Mustang gets 27. Why so bad? That's at 70 mph, I've cleaned the maf sensor, but it wasn't bad the cars only got 25,000 miles on it. I love the car but, uses a lot of gas for such a small car.

Simple, the escape weighs twice as much and has 1/4 of the engine as the mustang.

Epa rating is 20 city 27 highway for that car. Those numbers are always on the high side. Knock another 10-20% off for winter fuel and 20mpg sounds fine.

Also see how much ethanol they put in the fuel around you. More ethanol = less mileage.

My wife’s ‘18 Escape get 23.something average according to the dashboard calculator... I’ve never tracked the mileage and checked it for accuracy, i rarely drive it.

my 2011 3.0 awd escape has gotton 21 at best, I know its a whole different animal from the current escape platform, Im happy with it though. most of the time we average 18-20.

I too have an '18 Escape Titanium, want to burn less fuel?........stay out of the turbo, drive it as conservatively as one can, you'll see the fuel economy gauge begin to go up, in this weather at 110kmh/70mph on a flat stretch of hwy the vehicle is delivering approx 11Lper100kmh /26mpg, don't use the windshield defroster option unless needed, it cycles the a/c compressor. Remember, these things weigh 3700lbs.

Stay out of the turbo??? An Ecoboost without the turbo would just be an ECO... where’s the fun in that?

I can get my Ecoboost f150 average mpg (with over 9000 miles) to drop 2 mpg on a fun drive home.... these turbo motors need a little abuse once in a while.

Maybe trade it for one with a smaller engine.

Up here in Ontario where I live the price of fuel is the equivalent of approx $4.00US a gallon, even tho we both like to get in & *let it go* better judgement takes over. Compare that price with the price across the border in Buffalo ($2.50US)

My opinion...
Throttle pedals are basically on/off switches. They’re either all the way up or all the way down.

Oh good lord that is one of the dumbest things I have read today.

The next smallest engine is the 1.5L 3-cylinder introduced for the 2020 model year. It is a pathetic disappointment when going down hill. Near my dealership there is a small shallow hill where it is possible to get things just so that it is out of the turbo and not downshifting. But the speedometer needle is moving towards the left when you do it.

I have a 2016 Escape AWD with a 2.o EcoBoost and it gets great mileage. Between spring and fall we only drove about 1800 miles, primarily on secondary roads with no long trips and I never reset the mileage screen. It showed 26.4 average for 6 months including one day a week doing a bunch of stop and go on shopping day. Before Covid we did a round trip to McLean,Va to visit our daughter doing 75-80 on the highway and then dubbing along in the worst traffic I've ever seen and the average was 27.3. The previous fall we did 29.4 on a round trip to Bar Harbor, Me which was probably 3/4 secondary roads. The mileage has dropped to a little over 25 since the snow tires went on but it's expected. Is her Escape flex fuel? Running E85 kills the mileage.
