2014 Fiesta Ringing Noise

My Mom has a 2014 Fiesta with a three cylinder engine. It’s making a noise like a small bell from the top of the engine. I didn’t have a lot of time to look it over but best I can tell it’s coming from a cylindrical piece on the top drivers side of the engine about 2 inches in diameter. It looks like it’s part of the fuel system. I know there are a few Ford techs on here and figured I’d see if anyone has any ideas before they take it in.

Sounds like you are describing the high pressure fuel pump. Has two lines, one with a line nut, one quick connect, and an electrical plug?

The high pressure fuel system in general is noisy, however since that car has the 3-cylinder engine the only truly sensible thing to do is find the tallest bridge you can and run it off the side, then report it stolen.


Seriously, the HP fuel system, pump and injectors, for the ecoboost engines are noisy, and the 1.0L is junk.

Missing 5 cylinders

At least 4 liters too small

Probably designed as cheap as possible with little regard to longevity or serviceability

its turned the wrong way in the engine bay

The following four words should not be used together in any sense, but constitute a part that actually exists on your engine:

Oil pump drive belt.

If you think the engine is bad just wait until the transmission gains sentience and learns the pain of it's very existence, resulting in ritual suicide.

Ah I see. I’d definitely prefer a more robust power transmission system for the oil pump. I’ve heard the horror stories of the auto, but thought the manual wasn’t bad.

Two thoughts:

I think the bell is a Pavlov device to remind the hamster to eat.

and if that engine quits, Harbor Freight has an array of cordless drills you could swap in, but be careful, not sure the drive train can handle the big ones. & get an extra battery for long drives.

Yes the manual is "OK". It's the 6 speed dual clutch automatic that is a nightmare of engineering idiocy.
