Anyway, how many miles are on the engine?

There is a drive plunger under the fuel pump that sits between it and the cam like a lifter. If it is worn or the spring is broken it could cause your noise.

I’m not exactly sure on mileage. I believe between 30-50k. Is anything going to go flying across the garage never to be seen again if I take it off to investigate?

Serious afterthought: whenever I’m worried about losing little parts, I take some rags or towels or whatever and stuff them in all the openings around whatever I’m working on so a screw can’t slip under the intake manifold or such. I take a second rag, usually a heavier towel, and I cut a couple holes in it to access whatever I have to unscrew or unbolt, but it acts like a blanket over the top, so if anything pops it stays right there.

Hope it helps. And don’t let these guys bug you about your fiesta. It’s as good as Yugo or a Fiat any day of the week....

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.

50K is awful low miles for my theory.

There is a return spring in there, but it is captive to the pump. The lifter usually has to be removed with a magnet.

No worries. I never judge a man by his impotent little toy car....

It’s my Mom’s car, trying to help them from a distance. I was visiting them last weekend and heard it then. Next time I’m over there I’ll have a closer look. It is a fun little car to drive. Thanks for the help so far.

My two cents is that the ringing noise could be the alternator bearing going bad.
