2011 Ranger XLT - Transfer case will not shift - DTC 1891-6F, 1867-2F

Gents -

Been dealing with no 4x4 on the 2011 since last year.

As of now, both the transfer case motor and the 4x4 control module are new. Threw the 4x4 module in today, and still do not have 4wd.

ForScan is showing me two different error codes with old or new 4x4 modules:

P1867-6F - Transmission transfer case contact plate general circuit failure

P1891-2F - Transfer case contact plate ground return open circuit

Should note, as soon as I clear the DTCs with either unit with 4scan, they pop right back up, even before I attempt to shift.

Disconnecting the battery (positive, kick on headlights to drain system) does nothing either.

Does the wiring and switch check good?
No idea. Waiting on a second set of hands to test wiring next.

Protocol for testing switch? I have very little knowledge on this setup.

I can provide the diagram. Give me a bit to get them manual and scan the pages. As far as the switch goes, you'll probably have to pull the dash. Pulling the kick panel might give you access but I doubt it.

Switch comes out with the faceplate, so no big deal there, all the stuff is out already.

I guess at this point the last things it could be are wiring or the switch... maybe. No idea.

Or a broken ground somewhere underneath...

These should get you going. The Battery Junction Box (Engine Bay Relay Box) and Smart Junction Box (Fuse Box) should be in your Owner's Manual.

Why should I pay someone else to screw it up when I can screw it up myself for free?
Probably not so simple but I felt like a fool. I replaced both my shift motor and 4WD module and found out either the old module or shift motor kept blowing the 4WD fuse in the passenger kick panel. Replaced that fuse after the new parts and everything has worked fine since.

Checked both sides of both... have power across them.

Ok, so a serious wtf... I have ground on both ground wires coming from the 4x4 module. So... qhy do neither of them sense ground?

Ran a jumper from the 4x4 motor to the frame as well and tried the switch... no difference.

Pulled the switch apart, all intact I guess. Odd that the only pin I get an ohm reading from is the 2wd one.

No idea. This is driving me nuts.

This is why I prefer manual shit.
