Sister just called me saying her A/C quit working. She was in a parking lot idling and said she heard a click and that the A/C stopped blowing. She also said there's a bad smell. I'm thinking a belt broke, but I'm also thinking its a serpentine belt setup, so its possible she has no alternator, power steering, etc. Just wanted to see if any of you guys chime in before I go look at it.

The bad smell indicates the compressor may have locked up. What she's smelling is the clutch slipping/burning up as the belt is still spinning the pulley, but the compressor will not spin. Look for a whitish/brownish discoloration on the clutch and see if the compressor spins when the clutch engages.

I'll look at this, thanks for the quick reply. I began to suspect the compressor as well after she confirmed her power steering was still working.

It should still be under warranty, if it is let the dealer sort it out. but let us know what happens.

Agreed unless it has high miles. The 10 year / 100k miles warranty is just for drive line components, and everything else is 5yr/60k miles

Wow I didn't even remember the warranty lol. She took it to a shop today....like a girl would do. Let me make a call and see if it was indeed the compressor.

If I remember correctly it has less than 50k on it. More bragging rights for my ranger, A/C still blows strong and cold at 127k....shoulda bought a Ford sister.

Welllll this whole thread wound up being pretty pointless. My SIS took it to the dealer and they fixed it-bad fuse. I never got to look at it but something is still bugging me, what was the smell coming from? Is my sister smelling things? Surely my sister can't be THAT crazy.....can she?

Ok so if anyone is still reading this the fuse blew again. I know something is causing it but I'm not sure what. So my sisters gonna take it back to the dealer and I'm sure their gonna fix it....you guys should post what you think it is and see who gets it right.

When my Explorer kept blowing the AC fuse, it was the WOT relay.

bad ground on flux capacitor. Either that or a defective blinker fluid reservoir warning light

Blast! Backroad beat me to it. It clicked while idling, I'm wondering if that would negate the WOT relay. What about...rubbed wire that's grounding out? That's my guess

Oh, and the smell was the body odor the Kia was giving off because it was trying so hard to be like a Ford.

Kinda skeptical on the flux capacitor, I bet that's still good.
I know KIA cuts corners on wiring though-I can turn the wipers on and then back off really fast and they move about and inch and stop, its pretty funny. I wouldn't think its frayed wire, its a brand new car. Idk, I'm gonna get to look at it in an hour, its going to the dealer on Thursday.

I think its all pretty silly, A/C is overrated.

I didn't read the whole thing, just want to throw this in here. Last I checked Kia/Hyundai was not using serp belts, they were still using V-belt setups.
