If he is interested in doing the DPF delete and a tuner (which I would recommend for the longevity of this engine) I would act on that soon. H&S performance has suspended all production of their DPF delete tuning options as of right now as the EPA has stepped in and they are in negotiations on how to proceed.

You could unbolt the exhaust before the particulate filter and take it for a drive, see if that does the trick. If it does, your DPF is hosed.

He is indeed interested. I take it that it is frowned upon by the EPA then?

Its removing emissions components.

They are labeled as for offroad use only.

Here in MD and innovative diesel sells SCT with custom tunes and dpf deletes. For about $1100 you get intake, dpf delete pipe, and tuner. Almost double power, tq, and at least 20mpg. I suggest SCT tuner. I like them better.

Also depending on your state could be harder to get. MD has no diesel emission laws...... yet. If he is going to do it then it needs to be quick.

The dealer took the DPF off and oil came pouring out of the exhaust. The turbo ate it. It pretty much needs a new motor now. I'm not a big fan of the 6.4 or the 6.0 PS.

The 6.4 has actually been more problematic than the 6.0, and it is mostly turbo issues and the #8 cylinder grenading.

Adsm, have you heard of any negative problems with the 6.7L? I know they're still new, but I'm curious on what truck I'm gonna get next, I don't like the 6.4 cause of mpg's, so it'll be a 6.0L or a 6.7L...

Sorry for the thread jack...

I had heard this. I think the 7.3 is far more reliable than either of them.

No worries. I am curious as well. I always thought Ford did a really decent job on their own diesel (unlike GM). I am hoping the Scorpion will be a good motor.

Very few major issues with the 6.7L. We have replaced one complete engine and it was in a chassis cab truck, that was when they first came out.

Other than some sensor SCR system issues pretty damn reliable trucks so far.

As for 6.0L vs 6.4L. We have had very little issue with the 6.4L engines, a lot less than the 6.0L engines.

The usual thing we see is oil leaks and the odd high pressure fuel pump issue.

I love my 6.4L. Tuned and deleted, they are damn bullet proof.

Really? We are in trouble with warranty, $80,000 over everyone else in our area, because we get at least one grendaded 6.7 a month. They burn up the number 6 and 8 pistons and then the rod pops out.

Ouch. Have they pinpointed a cause?

Some have been oiling issues, some have been hung injectors, some have been failed EGR coolers.

The one they were complaining about a miss and a coolant leak. We put a piston in because it burned a hole in the #6 piston and couldn't find the leak. It came back a week later leaking internal engine parts all over the road because the EGR cooler finally failed and hydrolocked it while it was running.

That is pretty much what I have heard from my brother about the newer Ford diesels.

In the engines defense... it had been beat. The first time I was in it, it sounded like there was a spun bearing - and it was coming from the trans area it sounded like. I'm guessing that was the turbo.

Now yesterday my nephew brought over my BIL's 2005 PSD (same guy that owns the 08) and it has no blinker lights, no brake lights..... and no blown fuses.

I think he is about done with Ford.

He'll be back. You can't beat on gm or dodge and have them live as long as the Ford does. He needs to learn what the meaning of the word maintenance is, and he will have a lot less problems.....
