Hello there! 2 weeks ago I purchased my 2nd Ford Ranger. My first one was a 2000 XLT 2WD Supercab with a Vulcan V6 and 5 speed manual which I bought new. My new one is a 2008 2WD XLT Supercab with the 2.3 and automatic trans. I have about 600 miles in it so far and love it except for its unusually rough idle. Just wanted to know if anyone else with 2.3's is having this problem. When it idles a lot of vibration finds its way into the cab. I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel and it even rattles the dash a bit. Is this just a 2.3 trait?

Mine is an 08 2.3 and it's more like a vibration until you take off. Feels like it vibrates the brain. from what I read some high idle and vibration are normal according to the service managers? Might have to bring mine in too!

Its normal. It will vibrate quite a bit at stoplights and is very loud. I thought something was wrong at first as well. You wil get used to it. I have and actually like it now.

I have an 02 with a 2.3 auto and have the same vibration you seem to be talking about .....ford says its normal? my last ranger was a 99 with the vulcan that ran alot smoother . Is this a trait of the duratech?

Have a 2009 2.3 manual and it has some vibration...considered normal because the truck Duratec is not equipped with the balancer shaft as the car's are using to quell vibes.

Just got mine back from the dealer. they changed the motor mounts on it. Drove it back home and it still vibrates a little, but not nearly as much as when I took it in. I can definately live with this vibration.

I have a 2007 that has this vibration too and my wife hates it. I, on the other hand, don't even notice. All it means to me is that she never askes to borrow it! Yahoo!

its a duratec trait.. i actually hate that it runs rough and has alot of engine noise.. but it gets good mileage, has decent power, and is durable and long lasting from what iv read.. and experienced so far putting all 47k on my '07.

I dont hate it but it does make it hard to hear if something is going on with the engine thats not good. Besides its only rough at idle, when driving it is actually not bad.

My dads 08 F150 does it too. I think it's a ford truck thing.

As expected I have learned to live with it. I am running royal purple synthetic oil and that did seem to help a little with the vibration. I just hope it doesn't get much worse with age. Right now its tollerable but a little more vibration would get really annoying.
