Good morning to all,

A friend whose son drives the 2007 Ranger is having a transmission issue. My friend (the Dad) is a diesel mechanic by trade. We work together so he asked me about the transmission in my truck on Friday. I'm a school bus driver and not a tech, so I'm posting up here to see what we can find out!

’07 Ranger, 3.0L V6
5R55E Automatic, 2wd
225,000 miles

The vehicle is having the following transmission issues:

It pulls in 1 and 2, but slips in Drive.

Reverse also slips.

The servos look good.

It is throwing a po734 code.

Suggestions?

Any steerage towards reading resources for implementing the repair will be appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Oops! Thanks for the reminder. I forgot that part of the puzzle.

225,000 miles, and it's a 4x2

Also, I went back and edited my origional post.

My credo
If you can’t fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem
Will the vehicle go through the gears once moving and shifted into Drive?

It will shift out but once 4 and 5 are in you can tell that it will slip.

Smells like overhaul time.

@adsm08 has the same opinion I would have. Going to need replaced or rebuilt. Although that mileage is impressive.

Yeah that's pretty good mileage on one, actually. If it's going to be pulled apart..... might as well do it right.

To close this one out, he opted to replace the transmission.

Thanks again to all for the feedback and suggestions.
