I have been going crazy trying to find a cure for a misfire of cylinders #4 and #2 when idling warm. It runs great at all times when the throttle is applied, but goes batshit at a stoplight with no throttle. Truck has 215,000 miles, doesn't touch oil, and in 16 years this is the first time the CEL lite turned on.
I have replaced and/or tested:
-Ignition switch
-fuel filter
-crankshaft sensor and target
-camshaft sensor
-wires
-motorcraft plugs, which looked great at 80,000 miles.
-coil pack
-IAC
-TPS- funny thing, it started getting over 20 MPG when i replaced this?
-smoke test
-compression test within spec- 160-170 psi cold
-leak down test passed
-when cranking the engine with the pedal to the floor, it isn't cranking evenly and has definite change one spot in the revolution?
-paid Ford $160. with no results- said they would need further investigation...NFW!
Not sure what to do further- may have to junk it. My last Ranger 3.0 went 436,000 miles before dying, so I'm disappointed.
