Hey folks,

I just got an 05 Mazda B4000 4.0L 5spd manual 4x4. The gas tank seems rather small. By my calculations its about a 55L tank, which seems anemic considering how much fuel this baby needs to be fed. Is that correct for this model of truck? I thought they were supposed to be a 73L tank...

Thanks for any help folks.

Super cab tank should be 19.5 gallons, or 74L, whichever is bigger.

Carry you a gallon of gas and let it run out. Use the gallon to get to a station and fill it up.
I didn't quite let mine run out but know for sure it will plum bury the "E"
I'm also checking the mileage on its first tank

Yea, thats what I found in my research, however it filled up with 41L with 1/4 tank left according to the fuel guage. 41/(3/4)=54.7....

Yea I might have to do that. The guage might be off for some reason... But it seems to read normally, nothing weird happening with it. I'll try that and report back.

I dunno man. I can't do math in metric, but my numbers came straight out of the Ford shop manual.

My credo
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
There’s almost always some reserve left when you get to “e”

Yup, you have. Gas guage seems to go down slowly over about 400-420km (260 miles), so it seems to be working as far as I can tell. Its just the capacity seems off. When I look under the truck, the tank does appear to be large. Easiest thing to do seems to be run her dry and see how many litres that uses up.

You might need 5 gallons up there :)
Another thing I try to do with one new to me is test the Odometer against the miles on an Interstate.
Whatever it is off, equate it someway to a hundred and use that to accurately calculate my speedometer variance.
If the odometer is off 4 miles in a hundred so will the speedo, hence 50mph actually equals 48 etc
The interstates here are one of the most accurate (away from the cities), not sure what your alternative would be but thinking I saw speedo checks along some highways there
