I have a 4.0 out of a ranger but don't know which 4.0 code it is (don't have vehicle it came out of) is there a way to tell which code it is by a stamping on the engine

The 4.0 OHV and the 4.0 SOHC look very different from each other if they still have the intake manifold and valve covers on them. If the engine looks like yours, it’s the right engine.

Yes. You want the harness that came with the truck. The wiring and plugs are different between and automatic and a manual.

The harness looks exactly the same only difference is it has 3 extra plugs for the auto trans that my 5spd doesn't have so I figured it be ok
