I can get a 2002 F350 dana 60 for around 200 dollars. It needs new locking hubs, brakes, pinion bearing, maybe ring and pinion. I was wondering if this is worth it.

Not really, you will be dropping at least another $500+ or more for new parts. If it needs a R&P then forget it, new gears are pricey.

5.13's are only $280 from Randy's, that wouldn't keep me from buying it. They do use smaller unitized wheel bearings and crappy balljoints, but under the weight of a Ranger (especially compared to the F350) it shouldn't be that much of a problem. For $200, I'd probably buy it.

I bought my 1979 King pin Dana60 for $1000 (pair front/rear), then I had to replace all of the items you mention and more, I easily have $1500 in that axle with the stock shafts.

For that price I'd be all over it.

I "may" be wrong but im thinking up untile 05-06ish they had some sort of dana 50 hybrid with unit bearings. i know in 06 they went to the bigger balljoints/shafts and bigger lockouts. so you could be getting a D50 with bad parts in it. :icon_confused:

No, they were all D60s '02 & up. '05 is when they went to 35 spline stubs however ('02 is 30).

Try to get the 10.5" rear with it too though so your lug patterns match (they have a unique 8x170mm pattern).

$200 is an awesome deal.

If it were me I'd be regearing and swapping 35 spline outers on there anyway, so many of those costs mentioned are of no concern.

all f-350s have a dana 60 new and old. the bolt pattern changed in late 99 with the body style and again in 05 when ford went to a coil spring set up. but for 200 bucks reguardless what it needs i would jump all over it. the dana 50 is in the f-250s 99 and up, its what replaced the ttb.

I would pass because the aftermarket isnt as good for those axles. Highsteer is a pain in the ass to do, the aftermarket they do have is for the most part more expensive then the older D60's.

I don't know if you're still looking to get that axle or not (I would), but I happened to stumble across this as I was reading my Diesel Power magazine. I was actually thinking about getting them for my super duty because my passenger side ball joints need replacing. I went to their website and couldn't find any info, so I just scanned it for you, hope it's readable...

<Edit> Woah, yeah, she's readable allright!
