2001 3.0 EGR shroud alternative?

Just changing plug wires, EGR tube is in the way. I think to clear and replace the woven oil-soaked heat shroud, but when I touch it a cloud of sparkling grass fibers floats into my face. Itching now, I figure it has degraded, and so I buy this wrap as a replacement.

The replacement is exactly the same, toxic to my mind.

I do see the EGR tube for sale with (a different looking) shroud factory installed, for unnecessary $$$, and probably the same fiberglass anyway.

What do people use for heat shield wrap that won’t make me itch and risk what’s left of my lung capacity?

The stuff you bought is just fiberglass. The little glass fibers actually make little cuts in your skin, and that's what itches. Just wear a mask and gloves.

Probably be the first time you wore a mask lately and it actually did something.
