I have a 2001 2.5l and I know this is completely unrelated to a swap but I was trying to avoid posting a separate thread. If any one could lend me some knowledge and a helping ear. After driving the truck both cold and up to temp the engine has developed a knock. I think I have a rod bearing going bad but can't determine the exact reason behind it.
I've read into cracked blocks and valve/lifter knock but neither of those symptoms seem exclusive to whats going on.
-When I am accelerating a little to hard in 4th & 5th
-If I am under speed for 4th & 5th gear
-If I am in 5th and hit a bump
Generally when the engine is in it's high torque moments and only when driving, there is a thumping heard that sounds likes the crank/piston has some sort of displacement. If its disrupted by bumps or difference in speed between ( a possibly distanced) rod bearing and the crankshaft makes enough noise to make me reconsider driving any significant distance.

If I am assuming correctly, I want to try and get it apart assess the damage asap.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated
