I assume the red line mark on cam gear is the keyway

If so then yes it looks right, 50% of the time, lol

#1 exhaust would just be closing as #1 piston cam back to TDC, then #1 intake would start to open

The mark on cam gear would be at 4:00

But yes, for true #1 TDC Compression stroke both valves in #1 should have been closed 180deg rotation of crank
Intake stroke #1 at TDC, intake valve opens as piston goes down pulling in air/fuel mix
Compression stroke, #1 at Bottom DC, intake and exhaust valves both closed, #1 piston on the way back up, compressing air/fuel mix
#1 true TDC, both valve closed, spark plug fires
Power stroke, air/fuel explosion pushes piston down to add power to crank
Exhaust stroke, #1 piston at BDC, exhaust valve starts to open as piston goes up and pushes out exhaust

Every stoke of piston is 180deg of crank rotation, but only 90deg of Cam rotation
4-strokes of a piston requires 720 deg of crank rotation(360deg X 2), cam only rotates once, 360deg, in that 4-strokes

That's not my engine, you know right? Lol?

Focus on my problems!

And can one of you geniouses check my other thread to verify i did this timing right. For some reason the exhaust valve is open even though all 3 gears are on their mark. I thought the cam should have both valves closed.
Sorry thought those were your pics

Cam and AUX gear are the same gears, so they often have BOTH timing marks
Cam gear uses the Triangle mark points at 4:00
AUX uses Diamond mark pointed at 12:00
A worn down Diamond can "look like" a triangle, lol

Crank key at 12:00

Is the alternator plugged in?

Some of the 4cyl only have 2 wire voltage regulator plug in, instead of the normal 3 wire
But I think that was 2.3l duratec

I cant see crank keyway cause i dont wanna remove it. So im going by the mark on the balancer and timing mark. Its TDC. Oil pump/aux gear whatever it is only has one mark hard to mess up. Cam gear itself has NO mark, the plate attached behind it has the diamond mark. And the backing plate has one mark. Seen here.

Never needed to touch the alternator. Nothing ever unplugged, its out of the way of the mess
I did double check. Nothing to plug in there.

Aux gear has two triangles, cam has a diamond and a triangle, balancer has a line and a mark for tdc

Wrong mark for cam gear(in the picture), that's a Diamond, you need to use triangle mark on Cam(4:00), Diamond on AUX(12:000)

Why is there two f***ing marks? I found the triangle.... wtf is the Diamond for!?@?@?@

Im throwing another bird feeder at this thing. The second mark is like 120 degrees off?!?!?

Seriously tell me. Why are there multiple triangles and diamonds... also tell me... why don't i put this thermite in the truck and give up on life altogether?

The Cam gear and AUX gear are same part, same part number, interchangeable, but use different timing marks depending on where they are used, on the Cam shaft(triangle) or on the oil pump/aux shaft(diamond)

The god damn aux gear has two triangles....explain that... which baffles me cause that gear only drives the oil pump so why does it matter? Except some idiot put a cam sensor on it!!!!!

Ron I love you but this engine has defeated me for the day. I surrender. I only hope that your genius and courage will persevere and that your usual steadfast dedication to reverse engineering may provide an answer in my sleep.

Glory be to Ron.

Ron be thy way.

Whatcha wanna bet someone had the pulleys off at some point (probably when painting random stuff neon green?) and swapped them...

Throw a potato at it, call it a red breasted sap sucker then have a pickle... then threaten it with a sack of feathers and it might cooperate... lol
