The FL1A is one of the biggest oil filters Ford used on gas engines, ever. How much upgrade do you need?

Nah. Glyptal.

Or. More filters to clog with glyptal.

But let me tell you.

That sh*t is ON THERE.

Rumor has it cannot sludge with it, and forum guys will swear oil comes out clean.

Wound up painting every single cast or bare steel surface oil touches, including sandblasting and painting inside of valve covers and oil pan to see if I can get vapors to condense.

Even did the back of the block facing the trans so less clutch fibers wind up stuck in there.

Only place I could not get to was the cam galley.

If you don't mind using a remote oil filter adapter, you can use any size filter that you want. You can even mount it out if the way and where it gets some cooling.

Feel free to remind me, to take a some pics of mine, forward on the passenger side and getting airflow ..)
Gaz,

This is the reminder you requested to take some pictures of your remote oil filter adapter setup. Do you have an oil cooler in line with it or a thermostat in the adapter?

Here is the thermo bypass valve loction.

I am having problems both getting pics from my phones memory and posting on location due to low bars. I will try again today.

The thermo byass location photo didn’t come thru.

Is the cooler behind the grill a kit for the oil cooler or did you convert a transmission cooler for use as an oil cooler? I saw a tranny cooler conversion on YouTube.

If not, how where did you get both the adapter and cooler kit from? Looking forward to the pics. Thanks.

Ranger101:

All 3 devices were sourced seperatly from Summit Racing:

The cooler is an Oil Cooler kit, I chose it because of the tubing size and passes. It wasn't much of a kit though, just the until, hose/clamps and 8 stopper zip strip devices but it worked.

The thermo valve came with the wrong size Barb's but I really though that it would help with engine warm up so I replaced them with the correct size. The remote oil filter adapter came with some hose and clamps.

Gaz,

Thanks. The pics and insight are VERY helpful. I’m researching all three and have a feeling that all three will find there way to my 89. I’m going to spend time researching kits, cost, and location under the hood.

My goal is to have the ‘coolest’ oil ever! LOL
