Is Tom Morana stuff worthwhile? For example, the intake manifold and 1.8 to 1 roller rockers. Just curious how effective this combination is. To put it another way, will spending 2k give me noticed performance increase?

If you were racing in a 2.9l limited class then yes, every little bit helps, but you would have already shaved the heads, put in a better cam and balanced the engine

Bolt on parts can give you a bit more power, more noticeable because you did it than on a Dyno
Car makers sell performance, so if a bolt on part works better they will use it, thats why all fuel injected Rangers came with cold air intakes, it worked better
And thats why many car makers use Turbos now on newer cars

If you believe in the "Better in hock than stock" school of thought then yes, you will notice a little better power, but it is a little, under 10HP

That's why I asked. I don't have much confidence in performance gains published in ads etc. For example, the intake/rocker combination claims to produce 40hp and 60ft/lbs torque with everything else stock.

Ask for the Dyno test :)

2.9l is pretty old, last year was 1992, way before youtube videos(first year 2005), lol
But maybe someone has built one and has some Dyno test videos
