I would check codes if i had a check engine light, my gauge cluster never had it to begin with, my tps is fairly new since i had to replace it since it actually failed on me while driving but ill keep troubleshooting
You don't use the check engine light on these older trucks. You can use a testlight. Here's how to do it.

im guessing the previous owners let it sit for awhile and the ethanol in the fuel may have gummed up the injectors..
That's what happened to mine. I drove the company truck for about a year while my Ranger mostly sat in the driveway. I've used LUCAS Ethanol Fuel Conditioner since replacing the injectors. It may be paranoia on my part, but I haven't had anymore issues.

To send it or not to send it, that is the question.

How do you know it's not burning it? Especially since the 2.9 is notorious for cracking heads...

Think about it. It makes sense. Starts misfiring when warmed up and the coolant system is under pressure.. Two different 2.9's I had did the exact same thing and they both had cracked heads. In the exact same spot.

My credo
it is easier to fix and understand than "her"
The shielding is common and the idm wiring to the pcm.... where it meets the coil and also splits to the tach.

Then there are actual board issues in the pcm...

Have had shitty tfi right out of the box too...and dizzy...
