I suspect the answer is "no", but wondering if anyone has ever tried to fit the 2.9 accessory brackets on a 4.0.

Yes. We tried, it doesn't work.

The 4.0 deck height is taller, so the bolt holes are in all the wrong spots, the bolt sizes are wrong, thread types are wrong (2.9 uses SAE, 4.0 uses metric) water pump rotation is wrong, crank pulley is wrong.

Why in the world would you want to convert a 4.0 to V-belts? Especially using parts that are harder to find than the 4.0 stuff?

On a Scorpio 2.9 it would mean custom re-plumbing of the power steering and A/C since a 4.0 variant never existed for that platform. I suspect that would result in me ditching A/C entirely. For the power steering, I would probably explore the idea of sticking with the factory Saginaw pump, swapping in a Micro-V pulley and somehow adapting the pump to the 4.0 bracket.

I am not familiar with the Scorpio setup. The regular 2.9 uses the same PS pump as a 4.0 just with a different pulley.

Scorpio is totally different in that regard. It uses a small Saginaw PS pump. It's the same pump as used on many GM applications of the late 80's / early 90's.
