2.5L ('98-'01) 2.5 starting issues

i turn the key and hear the fuel pump hum and turn the key to start and just cranks over . this only happens once and a while . turn key off then back on and it fires right up . is this fuel related or ignition switch related?

just had it smoged would that have came up then?

Not necessarily. If you can get it there, most of the parts stores will scan it for you.

When you have the problem, you may want to check for voltage at the coil. A worn out ignition switch may be making intermittent contact in the actual electrical part, and with no voltage, no ignition. If you can wiggle the key when the engine is running, and cause it to stall or misfire, the switch becomes more suspect.

i had same problem turned out to be weak fuel pump.i had to cycle the key a few times

Was your fuel pump weak due to age?

yes it was the factory pump that came new with the truck.
