In the 2009 Escape, I'm guessing it's a bored-n-stoked 2.3?
Are FWD/RWD motors identical?

Engine 4-Cyl, 2.5 Liter
Horsepower 171 @ 6000 RPM
Torque 171 @ 4250 RPM

Bored-n-stroked 2.3? Are the block identical? Can it be retrofitted into a Ranger?

if its still a duratec, im sure it uses the standard duratec bolt pattern which means it would bolt to the 2.3 duratec trans. but is the thousands of dollars it would cost to buy a brand new crate motor, wiring harness, and PCM from ford really worth 28hp and 17ft-lbs? methinks not.

maybe in a few years when these motors start hitting the junkyard...but untill then, theres much cheaper ways to make more power than 171 HP and still maintain mileage.

I believe the 2.5L has "intake variable cam timing". The head's probably different so the Ranger intake and exhaust will not work. As there are no RWD intake or exhaust manifolds for the 2.5L, I think the odds are slim.

a custom exhaust manifold wouldnt be hard or expensive to make or have made...its only a four banger. in a spacious engine bay like the rangers, re-routing the FWD intake wouldnt be too difficult. ford managed it with the SHO and its a DOHC v-6....i doubt an I4 would present a problem.
