Okay well i Have a 83 ranger diesel and i have decided im going to make it 4x4
I have bought a dana 30 hp and also a dana 35 rear with 4.10s .
I also got the stock leaf springs and such that i am going to use to use. I dont want it lifted very high. I want to maybe run 32s
For brackets im planning on creating them, shackels in back.
I also bought a dana 24 transfer case. I found out that the transmission was never offered in a 4wd version, so i fixed that.
so basically im going to get everything set up and ready to go in and make a sweet build thread.

i have to wait for the dana 24 to get shipped to me. For now im going to buy my brackets, switch the 4.10's from the VAD axle to the non VAD and check brakes, paint axles and leafs, bolt up what i can etc

Also i think im going to need about 6 in of lift to clear my engine crossmember. I was planning on using the stock wrangler leafs, with the axle spring over. Will that get me there? or can i stay lower?

I am also planning on geting my mounts made up/ figured out. my leafs mounted, front crosmember made and ready to weld on

I would like to be able to do the front suspention/ rear in a weekend and get the transfer case in, mounted, and hooked up to the trans, and then take the whole truck to the local driveshaft guy.

Who knows how i hook the cables up to the transfer case?

do yourself a favor and throw that dana 35 as far as you can and keep the 7.5 rear end

I was planning on using the 35, simply beacuse i know my parking brake will hook up, as will my brake lines, and it has matching gears. considering imgetting a custom driveshaft i thought it would be easy/cheep

Yea, the 8.8 would be his best bet. I was just getting at the fact that even the wimpy 7.5 is a better option

nice, diesel ranger! I wish there were more of those around.

A word of caution,

Before spending much on the dana 35 rear to get it to work, google dana 35. There are entire websites dedicated to dana 35 carnage, under jeeps. Get it under a xcab ranger with some big tires, and your askin' for trouble.

If you can make it work for really cheap, go for it, but keep in mind that the axles are relatively light duty.

I'm still excited to see this thing to completion. Take lots of pictures and post them as you make progress. Good luck!

I was figuring that it would work really cheep. I have about 50 hp max and im planning on running 32's

my thought was the only cost i would have in it is $20 bucks for new spring perches

im going to need a custom driveshaft any way

I guess i could just buy some used gears for a 7.5 that are arround $85 on ebay but the 7.5 isnt that awesome either.

hmmm....

I was also currious, how high will my truck be with stock wrangler springs and small shackels with a spring over dana 30? the one i have is converted, and i was going to convert it back, however i was worried about the axle clearance.

I would also like to know the stock hole to hole measurement on a dana 30 drag link, i cant seem to find it any where and i dont want to simply eyeball it and be a inch off and not be able to adjust my steering correctly
Annnnnd should i use heims, or tre's

Im also not sure what to do for high steer if i go SOA
This

jbrsb2a.png

It looks to be gussted well, and has a good number of bolts to make it strong.

I dont want to loose steering and be in a ditch tho.

Would it be possible to make this myself?
Seems much easier then a wj knuckle swap, and cheeper then a new high steer arm
I can weld verry good, and have done many structural welds, even a hook on a roll off flat bed that regularly hoists 15000 lbs, so i am confident in my welding abilities.

There is one advantage a Dana 35 has over the 7.5/8.8, it doesn't have c-clips. Haha

Anyways, you can do spring under with an add-a-leaf. You will just have to clearance the engine crossmember. I've seen it done. Just saw the truck the other day actually.

Pretty sure most Jeep Dana 35's have c-clips. Everyone I've torn into has had them.

Just found out they were both ways but the non c-clip axles are rare.
