I'm in the process of replacing my fuel system and I noticed there's 2 fuel filters.1 cartridge cannister type and 1 inline type behind driverside motor mount.are these both needed?I read I had to relocate the inline one for header clearance just wasn't sure where to relocate it or if it's really needed at all.

Sometimes.

I just throw all that brittle crap away..from the high preaaure filter back to the tank.. upgrade to a mustang pump in place of the stock low pressure unit...and run the single inline.

Cleans it up and simplifies the whole deal.

Deengineer until it is how Blue Oval should have sold it!!

Actually there are 3, there is another before the pump in the tank.

When I was chasing a fuel delivery issue I learned about the 2nd external fuel filter. I changed it to know conclusively what was going on. It turned out that it was in good condition.

Yeah....the sock rips and jams the pump, or plugs off too.

Use a new sock. But I put that under the common sense...ass u me catagory.

does a mustang low pressure pump fit in a 1st Gen ranger tank?if so what yr mustang are we talking about? So oem high pressure ranger pump with the low pressure mustang pump? 1 inline fuel filter only?is this correct?

High pressure pump.

You use say....a 90 mark 7 or mustang fuel pump in your carrier.

Run new line or a later model line from the sender to the rail filter and remove all of the other stuff ..HP rail pump and all. Keep it for later use trouble shooting...or what have ya...

Get efi hose and clamps and reuse the ends you have or go all new.

Run all new fresh wire from inertia switch.

Clean and simple.

I was told the stock efi system from my 1st
gen ranger could support an efi 302 no problem.is that not the case?I was just planning on replacing low-pressure in tank pump with new one. replace high pressure pump in frame rails with new one.replace all fuel lines. which I already purchased Russell braided stainless lines -6an and Russell fittings.just wasn't sure if all the fuel filters were necessary.now I'm not sure if I should look into what your saying now or not?that 86-92 mark 7 pump is that a high pressure or low pressure pump?and would that fit my tank without any modifications?

It would be a high pressure pump.
What he is suggesting is to replace the low pressure in tank pump with a high pressure unit, and getting rid of everything from the tank to then last fuel filter. You would save money. And JIC fittings are a hell of a lot cheaper than Russell fittings and do the exact same thing...just no bling.

I've never done this particular pump swap. It sounds like you would swap out the pump into the stock pump housing that holds the low pressure pump. What he called a frame.

That makes sense.since I already bought the in tank low pressure and on the frame rails high pressure pumps ranger oem types already from rockauto a few mths ago i mind as well use it.by the time I pay to ship items back plus restock fee would make no sense for me not to use it.if it was bought locally I'd be driving there tomorrow and buy the mark 7 one.i LL just use 1 fuel filter after high pressure pump get rid of cartridge cannister shit filter and run that b*;+ch.thanks again man.im sure I ll have more questions.stay tuned.

Wouldn't using just a high-pressure in-tank pump with the smooth bottom tank mean you'd potentially be fuel starved on a long hill with less than half a tank?

The canister type "fuel filter" is actually a fuel reservoir. Some did have filters but not all. I'm not too sure when they stopped using them, maybe when they went to high pressure in tank pump?

Do I need to run 2 fuel filters on my system?1 before high pressure pump and 1 after?I removed the oem fuel cannister that was before in high pressure pump.now just have the 1 filter after pump.will the 1 filter after be enough or should I get one before high pressure pump as well?
