The symptoms started with a soft clutch pedal. So I had the master bled by a mechanic who did not do bench bleeding. The result was that the clutch engages only at the very bottom. I had to release is it very carefully since clutch play was very short. So I ended up bleeding it myself. Everything worked fine except after I drive it for a few miles the clutch pedal wouldn't return gradually. When I remove my feet, it takes a few seconds and then pops back. Especially if I pressed the pedal all the way down. I tried to press it half way and release it. It seems to be working but haven't played with it much to be sure. The sudden popping of the pedal causes the engine to die if I was trying to drive from a stop. After I park the truck for some time, the clutch seems to be working fine. This behavior definitely happens soon if I have my A/C on. without A/C, fan on it takes longer for the pedal to behave like this. I am not certain if there is a connection. Would anyone know of any apparent issue that will cause this? Is this a bad clutch or slave cylinder. There seems to be no leak in the system (I assume so because the clutch pedal works after a few minutes). What can cause the pedal to pop back instead of gradually returning? Appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Welcome to TRS :)

I would replace the Master, not hard or expensive

The Slave is basically just an expandable cylinder, no valves or any "mechanical" devices, its possible it is getting stuck but less likely than Master issue
Slave will usually leak fluid when there is a problem with it, it will drip out the bell housing and reservoir level will go down as it leaks

No there is no connection between clutch system and any other system
Reservoir---Master-----------Slave
Thats pretty much all there is to it

Thanks RonD for your response. I will try replacing the master.
