1999 Ranger P0453

My 99 Ranger has had the CEL on, tried new gas, tightened gas cap...the simple stuff. Went to AutoZone to find out it was a p0453. They told me the part is $84.99, it's an FTPS2 - they said it would take a few days to get to the store. I have limited knowledge of this sort of repair. I've replaced brake light switches in the past, that seemed pretty easy. Changed the oil before, and spark plugs, again, all very easy stuff.

Curious to know if I need to remove/lower the gas tank, or if that is a step too far. Is this a simple thing to pop in and out once I get under the truck?

The sensor is on top of the tank. If you don't have access to a lift it is probably easier to pull the bed off.

Are you having any driving issues or is the only problem the CEL? That code is for the EVAP system reading higher pressure than normal and I think it's a step too far to go replacing any parts until you know what's wrong. It could be a bad sensor, it could also be the purge line is clogged, it could also be a bad connector or bad wiring. It would be a good idea to tell us what engine you have too. I'm not too familiar with EVAP systems and I got all this info from google, just making sure the sensor is the problem and not something else.

Not having any driving issues, but I do need to get my inspection done, and I assume with the CEL being on, it won't pass inspection. 2.5L engine on this Ranger, 2WD, standard.
