Originally thought that the brake light switch had gone bad so I bought a new one and replaced only to find that brake lights are still out. If I manually push the installed switch upwards then the lights do come on. Something is keeping the plunger on the switch from being pressed. I can also reach my finger to the top of the installed switch and can pull back the metal tab of the plunger and the lights will come on. Any advice?

Maybe the new switch is bad, it happens more often these days, parts are NOT TESTED before being shipped, YOU are the first person to touch that new part

Is this how it is mounted?
