Quick details: 1994 Explorer Sport, 4.0 V6, automatic, 234k miles, runs and drives good. 3.73 gears, open diffs, electric shift 4x4.

More information: I have been slowly collecting parts and building this Explorer for several years with the intention of offroad racing it. I have mostly lost interest in doing that, however, quite a bit has been done. It was originally a 5 speed manual trans vehicle but has been converted to automatic with an ultra rare C5 transmission from a Bronco II. Has a lot of new parts installed: radiator, plugs, fluids changed, AC delete done, fairly new battery and fuel pump, oil changed, and other things I’m forgetting. Custom bumpers front and rear, recovery points, front and rear receiver hitches, etc.

The interior was very dirty when I got this and everything except the front seats was discarded. It has some repairable rust in the rockers like all of them do – I have some patch panels to fix this and a good set of front fenders. Floors, frame, body mounts, etc are in good shape. Exhaust was rusted off at the cats so they were discarded and it was straight piped.

This Explorer could be race ready with a cage, race legal muffler and minimal other work. I have seat belts, fuel cell, battery box, and Dana 44 front hub conversion kit available to go with the truck.

To just drive it or wheel it as is, it just needs your license plates, trans kickdown cable finished (halfway done) automatic trans pedal assembly installed (included with truck) and maybe a better shifter.

Price is negotiable depending on what you want with the truck. It can be cheap if you want a rolling chassis and you bring your own wheels & tires. I have several sets of wheels and tires that can go on it at various price points. As pictured with the 31” Duratracs and wheels, I want $2500 for it.

Not really in any hurry to part ways with this but I do have a couple other vehicles I'd like to put some time & money into.

Hey man do you still have this beast? I’ve been looking for a decent looking explorer for a couple years.

I do... but I have more or less taken it off the market. I forgot I had this ad posted. Sorry!

I scored some parts to do a solid axle swap on it and was planning on making it my next crawler rig. I'm not sure it would have been worth moving it from my location to yours anyway... I imagine you could find a nicer one down there, this one is pretty rusty.

Appreciate it man. Lol I would’ve taken the drive too. I can’t seem to find one that’s five speed and four-wheel-drive and still in good condition

Haha, thanks, I can't take too much credit for the armrest... someone else did that, I used a metal shed door handle for the driver's side. That shifter was just something I cobbled together so that I could shift gears... I was reaching through the floor for a while. I have a B&W Unimatic cable shifter that I'm going to put in it but it will require a custom floor plate... plus a manual shift 1354 t-case. It will eventually have full width D44/9" axles under it with 5:38 gears and 36's. Will be a more family friendly crawler, it sucks having only two seats in my Ranger with a family of 5.

I wish the body was in better shape. These rigs are everything that the Bronco II should have been...and they are kinda hard to find now.

I wish! I have a rig with a blown up A4LD sitting on my trailer... I don't even have any good 5 speeds at the moment. Time to do a big parts order and build some transmissions!

Would you be interested in rebuilding/repairing another? Mine doesn't seem to slip but it just doesn't shift right and I have already tried a shift modulator (it was bad) and cleaning and polishing the governor. I think it needs a valve body and that is beyond what I am comfortable with.

If the answer is NO, is there a tranny shop in Rapid you would recommend? I like AAMCO but they won't touch it. Logan's perhaps?

What you have already done is more than I've ever done with an automatic... I have rebuilt a few 4 and 5 speed manuals though, those are relatively easy but autos are way above my comfort zone.

I am surprised AAMCO won't mess with it. Maybe they've seen too many A4LDs come back multiple times? Logan's would be my first choice. I have yet to hear anything negative about them.
