1994 2.3 intake system

Hello all, I have an aftermarket intake for my truck, but I it seems like whenever I put it on, it hurts more than helps. I know the OBD I system isn't as excepting to new parts as an OBD II system, but is there a way that I can get a benefit from the intake, or am I just wasting my time? I also have an aftermarket MAF hoping it would help too.

You can actually do more modifications on a vehicle with OBDI. The stock 2.3 doesnt really flow that much air, so your basically pissing in the wind with the intake unless your planning future mods that warrant it. And as for the MAF sensor, take it off and throw the stock one back on, the only reason you should get an aftermarket MAF is if you need one recalibrated for larger injectors.

I figured as much with the intake, and wasn't really sure about the MAF. But i never knew that you could do more mods with an OBD I. I heard somewhere that the engine also uses the speedometer to adjust air fuel mixture, how true is that because my speedometer is off. I think it sounds funny, but you never know...

the PCM uses the VSS's input to control certain engine parameters..but its more of a "stopped" or "moving" type input..not really speed related.

So it being off really won't affect the way the engine runs? My truck does do one weird thing, when I am going over what seems about 25 mph and push in the clutch and just coast, it jumps between 900 and 1500 RPM's, would the VSS cause that?

Thats the weird thing, it smooths right back to 900 RPM

it should be closer to 1,100 rpm while moving...settling to 900 or so only after stopping. perhaps the incorrect speedo IS messing with the PCM...
