In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are different.
Ah. Home at last. Before I post photos, I'd just like to give a shout out to Josh (hope I remembered his name) who has a mid 90's 5.0l Explorer. He came over asking questions about my truck while I was fueling at Eldorado Outpost this morning for my trip home. He wants to do a SAS and looked to see how I built my snorkel intake. I invited/encouraged him to come join us here.

Early in the day, we hit this slope. The tree root was determined to pull wheels to the right so you would just run into the tree. 2 vehicles had to be winched here. The trick was to keep your front wheels turned hard to the left and get your front passenger tire was over the root early at the lower end. Also, a fair amount of momentum and skinny pedal to keep moving up the muddy hill.

This turned out to be a fun rock pile.

I tried this line. Straight in towards the left of the tree. Then you had to make a hard right over some rocker panel bashers. That rock right in front of the tree stopped me. It kept making me slide to the right. It also claimed the life of a tie rod on a Jeep. I decided not to hit it hard enough to break stuff and backed out.

This is the ride organizer. He didn't make it as far as I did. But to be fair, his truck is much heavier and his tires not nearly as new as mine.

This was a successful run on that line.

This was a good little challenge. I went through pretty easy. One of the places where I did come down hard on a rock. Don't think I damaged anything. I'll know better once I get a chance to wash the truck and inspect the bottom.

Another small rock garden.

My adventure buddy loved it.

Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Probably getting to sound like a broken record with this.. but... apart from some mediocre terrain parks there's pretty literally no places to do things like this in maine. Absolutely jelous, looks like a hell of a time.

Business opportunity? Might be a challenge to get a loan to buy the land. But...

Mediocre terrain park (singular) actually. Not that many trails, and most of the trails they do have are a little extreme for a daily driver.

I had thought about it. There's actually 300 acres that butts up against the one terrain park we have now, listed at 500k. Could do a joint venture type thing with the guy who owns it and make a 1000 acre park.. but... I don't think the bank will give me 500k lol.

Gentlemen, this is my personal build thread. It is NOT in the tailgate area. Please keep your comments clean and decent. I have deleted the offending posts.

Made a bracket today, to hold the line lock solenoid valve I'm going to install for the front brakes. The idea is to let me hold the front brakes with a pushbutton and free up my feet to operate clutch and accelerator on hills or tricky rock crawling situations.

Spent another hour at the parts store trying to collect the right fittings and hard line to do the plumbing on that.

ALL the metric and SAE hard lines were mixed up on the same rack and not sorted by size or length. Jeez!

The plumbing is finished. Looking at the original brake line, it seemed like making a copy would be difficult. But I had a reasonable facsimile installed in less than an hour.

The connection at the master cylinder had to be done twice. I was making double flares for all the connections. But that one didn't tighten up. With the nut tight, the line was loose and leaking. So I looked at the old tube and saw that it was shaped like the first half of the double flare process. So I didnit again and stopped before inverting the end if the tube. That left kind of a bubble shape. It tightened up and isn't dripping. Hopefully that is right. I haven't bled the lines and tested the brakes yet. I'll do that after I finish the wiring.

The line I had to duplicate.
